It is time young people in Kisumu County and its environs stopped causing mayhem in political rallies and party activities as has been recently witnessed in Muhoroni and Kisumu town during the ODM grass root polls.

During the aforementioned events, the youth caused trouble, beating up people stoning vehicles and destroying property and were it not for the intervention of the police, it is very probable that lives might have been lost.

A similar incident happened in Nakuru, not to mention Nairobi Dandora Estate and more have been happening in various parts of the country from time to time over the years.

It is said that humans are political beings and as a matter of fact, it is indeed true that each one of us is aligned to a particular political party in this country. But that doesn't mean we should turn into wild animals during political rallies and polls especially when we realise somebody who is not politically affiliated to our party is present or when a loss is imminent.

Kenya is a democratic nation and most of us claim to understand democracy yet we behave worse than those animals in a zoo. With democracy in our mind, we should be able to accommodate those we fill are in the opposing camp and probably give them our ears during rallies and political forums.

The person you chase or stone in a political forum may have words or plans that may change your life, a thing that may lack in your aspirants mind.

It is surprising that in this region people are inclined to particular parties or people to an extent that they can sacrifice their lives or run naked in the streets just because they have been directed to do so by their political 'gods'.

In this 21st century, it is good for the youth to make rational decisions especially on matters of politics.

Are you ready to kill, harm or injure your brothers and sisters because you assume justice wasn't done or just because you have been directed to do so?

The fool here is  the young man who is unaware that the so called political enemies at the end of the day; dine together, drink together, their sons and daughters school together and even inter-marry while our 'loyal' selves remain political enemies and still hope some miracle will happen to change our lives.

Having stayed in this region, I have seen first hand how poor youth receive hand outs to cause mayhem in political rallies or to blindly vote for some leaders without even considering what they can do for them.

Hundreds, probably thousands even, have been used and reused by these glorified pseudo-leaders whose fortunes multiply as their poor 'loyal' supporters' lives remain unchanged or even worsen.

The future of this country depends on the youth as it is always said but we can only achieve good progress if we shun political hooliganism, embrace brotherhood, nationality and tolerance to other people’s ideas.
