It is a relief for bodaboda operators around Maseno University area as their incomes increase due to hundreds of students arriving at the institution for clearance ahead of  the graduation on December.

After the indefinite closure of the institution, the bodaboda riders who usually ferry students to and from Siriba Campus have had a tough time earning much since students are their main customers.

Their luck is changing with students are streaming in for clearance and other logistics in readiness for the graduation that is scheduled on December 11.

The riders are now able to get a good number of customers in a day since Monday as students stream in, in large numbers to meet the deadline.

When the institution closed indefinitely, they say it was hard for them to meet their daily targets as nobody was allowed within the institution apart from the staff.

The residents of Emabungo and Nyawita villages who normally use the University Road had to find an alternative route to their homes further reducing the earnings of operators on the route.

According to Paul Ouma, a bodaboda operator on the route, he is sure of an increased earning starting this week until the graduation day as students will be flocking in preparation for the event.

“A week ago I was getting about Sh250 in a day because students are not around but with graduation preparations I am sure I will be getting between Sh600 to Sh1,000 in a day,” he said.
