A common cliché says, “Many hands make work easier”.

Somebody once told me that if you want to go faster go alone and to go far go together. For any economy to thrive, people have to work together. The youths have to be incorporated in all sectors of the economy because they are the leaders of tomorrow.

Yes, they are the leaders of tomorrow, but are they ready and willing to take the mantle? Youth have enormous energy that can be used in building Kisumu County and nation-building activities.

From hard manual jobs in the construction industry, bodaboda, Matatu operation and technological advancements, the youths are all over but are we united enough to steer the county forward?

During the 2012 campaigns prior to the 2013 general elections, Jubilee coalition had promised to support youths in what they termed as “Uwezo Fund”.

However, the bureaucracy of accessing such funds is hectic and time wasting thus reducing the hopes of many youth to get that money. Such difficulties and other problems such as unemployment should make us stick together, work together and motivate us to do more and more things that can help us improve our lives and the society in general.

Youths have been frustrated in the job market despite their clean papers, which they have been toiling to get for years.

You walk into an office and you are told to prove that you have five or more years of experience. Employers now claim that universities are churning half-baked graduates in the job market.

Some are claiming that recruiting a fresh graduate requires more funds to train the individual before he/she can commence work.

As youths, we should work together against all these odds and fulfil our dreams. We can form welfare groups and associations that can bridge us from poverty to prosperity.

Women took the initiative of working together and everyone can see the strides our mothers have made in development through Chamas, Merry go rounds and Home banking and other beneficial associations.

If it is hard to form groups that we can work together therein, and then we can join, the Kenya Youth Hub.

This is an NGO dedicated at empowering youths and keeping them free from social frustrations, and discrimination in the job market.

The group has been walking throughout the country by bringing the youths together to share dreams and aspirations.

Kisumu youths can change economically, socially and politically. Instead of being -misused by our politicians, we can come together, form groups and work together for the benefit of us and our county at large.

Through beneficial groups, we can be able to raise capital for starting a business, share ideologies and develop mechanisms of helping each other at all levels.

Through interaction and knowledge, transfer we can be able be able to discover our potential, get opportunities and improve our lives.
