Prof Agong said Kenyan scholars are not as careful as those from South Africa and the US whenever they are publishing their research.

He notes that Kenyan researchers are “in a rush” to publish their work, with little regard to quality.

“Publications of Kenyan scholars are poor as compared to other countries,” the don claimed.

His sentiments were echoed by the vice chancellor of the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Prof Fredrick Otieno, who also urged scholars to use their knowledge to help improve the Kenyan economy.

He also asked scholars to team up to improve education in marginalized areas like Turkana and northern Kenya.

The two were speaking at a research dissemination workshop that happened on November 27-28 in Kisumu Hotel.

The workshop was organized by the Maseno University chapter of the Kenya Scholars Association. It was sponsored by Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (Daad).

The objective of the workshop was to assess the impact of the skills acquired in the previous workshops and targeted postgraduate students who trained on proposal writing at Maseno University on September 2011 and Masinde Muliro on July 2012.
