Reports indicate that Chairman Wafula Chebukati is yet to update the commissioners on what transpired in Monday’s meeting with President Kenyatta.

Chebukati is yet to communicate his decision on the polls as promised last week, when he gave the involved parties a week to sort out the political issues affecting the country.

According to Ms Connie Maina, the commission’s vice chairperson, they are still preparing for the polls as provided by the constitution.

“He has yet to brief us but that does not stop us from preparing for the elections. We have met observer groups and security chiefs to brief them. We are still meeting this evening and probably will brief the country today,” said Ms Maina as quoted by Standard.

There was more development again on Tuesday, after reports indicated that the commissioners attended several meetings on Tuesday at the Bomas of Kenya, which Chebukati did not attend.

The report further indicates that the chairman was operating from another room in premises, while the other four commissioners - Maina, Paul Kurgat, Abdi Guliye, and Boya Molu - held a parallel meeting about 150 metres away.

This development comes a week after former commissioner Roselyn Akombe resigned from the commission and fled to the USA, and Chebukati said he could not promise a fair elections due to many factors.
