Ajwang, from the School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS), Department of Sociology and Anthropology, will fly out of the country in January 2015, where he will be accompanied by Lilian Owoko, a lecturer of Sociology and Anthropology, for the next three months.

Previously, two students from Sociology and Anthropology, Karimi Anne and Lemic Ngalla, travelled under the same exchange programme to Finland’s Centria University for three months, between September and December 2014, accompanied by the dean, SASS, Felix Kioli and Cyrilla Luvega; all lecturers from Sociology and Anthropology.

The students had the opportunity to have visited three universities, while the accompanying lecturers visited nine universities where they gave memorable international talks to professors and the faculties.

The exchange programme is a partnership between the School of Arts, Social Sciences under the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Maseno University and Centria University, where students get involved in social services in the host country. The programme is fully funded by the Finnish Government.

The students will not only visit Centria University, but also other universities that are members of Social Work and Social Sciences Africa Network (SWAN) in northern Finland, which include Savonia, JAMK, Kymenlaasko, Lapland, Seinajoki, Lahti, Laurea and Mikkeli Universities of Applied Sciences.

SWAN Network members in the south are Addis Ababa’s University Ethiopia, Maseno University (Kenya) and Moshi University College of Co-operative and Business Studies (MUCCoBS), Tanzania.

Maseno University entered into partnership with Centria University in a bid to promote the study of social sciences in both institutions.

The two institutions will extend the bilateral agreement through the exchange programmes, exhibitions and cultural shows between the institutions of diverse cultural background.
